500 Block Free Game 1: Cave Story It’s a unique old school platform game that really gets you hooked as soon as you start understanding the play mechanics. It’s a little like Metroid, but it has its own thing going on. The graphics are simple yet stylish and the gameplay is smooth and fun. This is what a Super NES game would be like if anyone was still making SNES games. By the way, everything in this game from the graphics, music, code, everything was created by one man who goes by the name Pixel. Very impressive stuff. Click the link below to download the game for free. http://www.cavestory.org/downloads_1.php If you’re on this list give Cave Story a try: beaverdude172 Free Game 2: Metro.Siberia It’s a Flash game, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth playing. You basically just navigate a tiny triangular ship through tunnels and avoid hazards. The catch is you’re forced forward constantly like those Super Mario 3 levels. You can’t even slow down and you’re only control is in pressing the space bar to thrush up, while gravity tries to pull you down. This game just exudes style and it’s extremely addictive in that, “just one more time” kind of way. Click the link below to download the game for free. http://www.salomonsson.se/siberia/ If you’re on this list give Metro.Siberia a try: Adelfia Free Game 3: Titanion It’s a vertical shooter much like the classic Galaga, but with the maximist style of Ikurga’s gameplay and the tron like visuals of Rez. It’s very easy to get started and the game gradually gets more challenging the more you play. If you like shooters you can’t really go wrong with it. Click the link below to download the game for free. http://files.filefront.com/Titanion+v03/;6352153;/fileinfo.html If you’re on this list give Titanion a try AuntySemitist Free Game 4: Marathon Before Bungie gave the world Halo they released a trilogy of FPS games on Apple computers called Marathon. A lot of fans think Halo is the spiritual successor to those games. Bungie has made them free for download and luckily they are still fun to play. The graphics may be dated, but the gameplay is still a blast. Click the link below to download the game for free. If you’re on this list give Marathon a try: AmericanWardog |

600 Block Free Game 1: Frets on Fire Are you too cheap to buy Guitar Hero or Rock Band? Or you have it and wish you could play your favorite songs and not be limited to what THEY let you play. Look no further than Frets on Fire. It may be a total Guitar Hero rip off, but that’s a good thing. All you need is a PC with a Keyboard and you can rock nearly as hard as that kid at Wal-Mart that totally hogs the Guitar Hero kiosk even though you asked politely for the next game. Anyway, it feels weird at first, but once you get used to it the F-Keys start feeling like frets. Well at least as much like frets as the colored buttons on those plastic guitars. http://fretsonfire.sourceforge.net/ If you’re on this list give Frets on Fire a try: 92vinman Free Game 2: Lunar Rescue It’s a Flash game, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth playing. It’s simple and easy to learn. All it uses are the arrow and space keys. You must pilot a Lunar Lander and using your thrusters find and rescue stranded people. Gravity keeps it interesting and narrow caves, falling rocks, and other obstacles make things challenging. Not much more you can say about it, it gets addictive in that, “just one more time” kind of way. http://www.2flashgames.com/f/f-1130.htm If you’re on this list give Lunar Rescue a try: AnnoyedGrunt Free Game 3: Mu-Cade To call this merely a shooter is overly simplifying it, calling it a Centipede clone would be a flat out lie. It has the graphic style of Tempest, the shooting mechanics of Robotron, and fast passed insanity of Millipede. Now all those comparisons mean nothing because this game is 100% original. It’s old-school at heart, but it new-school to you. Once you get the hang of it you’ll want to keep playing forever, and since you don’t have to keep feeding it quarters you’ll still have enough allowance left over for a soda. http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~cs8k-cyu/windows/mcd_e.html If you’re on this list give Mu-cade a try Herosdescent Free Game 4: Halo Zero Have you ever wondered what Halo would be like as a sidescrolling shooter. Well wonder no more thanks to this little gem. Normally when shrinking a game, from a fully 3D first person shooter to a sidescroller, the game only retains the name, but no substance. Not with Halo Zero. You aim with the mouse, dual wield, drive a warthog, and even the enemies react the same as in the original game. The only downside is how short the game is, but a sequel is in the works. http://www.biohazard-software.com/index.php?p=games If you’re on this list give Halo Zero a try: Bridges78900 |
